Hi! I’m Harriet Cabelly and this is my blog. By profession I’ve been a social worker for 20 years, in the school system and in private practice. Four years ago I added life coaching to my repertoire of skills. My specialty is helping people rise above their challenges.
I’ve always been interested in people overcoming adversity. I was a child of divorced parents back in the early ‘60’s when divorce was not a very common occurrence. Yet my mother created a good, strong and independent life for herself and me.
When I was a teenager, I had a boyfriend whose mother went through some horrific circumstances but she never lost her positive attitude. I was inspired by her and in awe of how she did it— how she was able to take the bad and channel her life into new and more positive directions.
This has been a theme in my life that I’ve been drawn to—how people cope and grow through their hardships.
I’m greatly inspired and moved by people who, against all odds, go on to live good and meaningful lives.
In my private practice as a therapist, I worked with clients around issues of grief and loss, from people who lost loved ones in 9/11 to people going through divorce and illness. Helping them pick up the pieces of their broken lives was tremendously powerful and meaningful work. This is now my niche area in my coaching practice.
We all have “stuff,” obviously some more and seemingly worse than others. Some people become better and some succumb and become bitter. Therein lies the challenge: how to create and live a good life despite its inevitable challenges.
I’m excited to be honing in on my deep-seated passion of working with people to recreate their lives beyond their adversities. Hence my name—Rebuild Your Life Coach.
Why This Blog
I‘m hoping to touch and inspire readers by writing about what most inspires me: uplifting stories and life lessons gleaned from my experience and other people’s lives. I’ve certainly had my share of difficulties which I plan to explore in my posts.
I could be a member of many support groups—divorced women, parents of disabled children, medical crisis survivors.
You can expect two weekly posts, as well as one monthly profile highlighting a person who’s moved beyond personal challenges to build a productive life–someone who has grown and risen above seemingly insurmountable odds.
This site’s about recreating new dreams when our old dreams have been shattered. There’s nothing more stimulating, uplifting, and exciting than being part of this journey with others, as we attempt to take what comes our way and use it to create the best possible lives.
To receive free weekly posts exploring adversity and introducing ordinary heroes, subscribe to Rebuild Your Life Coach by email or RSS. You can also learn about my life coaching services and read my other published writing around the web. You can also read my posts on Tiny Buddha.
I look forward to sharing stories with you. Surviving isn’t enough; thriving is the name of the game.
